DIGITAL JAPAN BOWL PROGRAM

The National Japan Bowl is the ‘Super Bowl’ of Japanese language learning. Japan-America Society of Washington DC created the National Japan Bowl to provide inspiration and motivation to both Japanese language learners and Japanese language educators alike. JASWDC holds the National Japan Bowl each spring in our Nation’s Capitol as an Official Event of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The annual competition provides a platform that is fun and engaging–but also rigorous and challenging– for motivating language study, as well as study of Japanese culture, society, daily life, history, geography, and current events. From its inception in 1993, the National Japan Bowl has grown into a two-day event with over 200 participants from high schools across North America, and a series of related regional Japan Bowls that take place throughout the United States and around the world. Through the National Japan Bowl, Japan-America Society of Washington DC, and our partner institutions around the country and world, hope to foster a deeper understanding of Japanese language and culture and encourage the next generation of US-Japan leaders to pursue their passions.

The 28th National Japan Bowl competition cannot be held as an in-person competition, due to the unique challenges presented to us in Spring of 2020. Therefore Japan-America Society of Washington DC is excited to launch a digital version of the National Japan Bowl for this year in order to preserve the essence of the competition and allow all the students to put their hard work to the test!
