WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Japan-America Society of Washington DC is pleased to announce the
opening of the Tanaka and Green Academic Scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year. The
scholarship was established in 2014 by JASWDC to support short-term academic study for either
one college semester or one academic year at universities in Japan. The Tanaka and Green
scholarship may be used for any combination of tuition, academic fees, room and board, travel
and transportation (including travel within Japan), and other approved expenses. The Tanaka and
Green Academic Scholarships are made possible thanks to the Society’s H. William and Lily Tanaka
Scholarship Endowment and the Marshal and Lispenard Green Educational Endowment. To date,
30 scholarships have been awarded to undergraduate and graduate students across the United
States.

Applications for Tanaka and Green Academic scholarships are now open to participants in any
Japanese study-abroad programs. Applicants must be American citizens enrolled full-time at an
undergraduate or graduate school in the United States and give proof of acceptance into a college
or university as a full-time foreign exchange student in Japan. Applicants must submit their online
application by August 21, 2020. For more information, please visit www.jaswdc.org/tanaka-green-scholarship/.

We understand many programs in Japan have been cancelled or postponed until the Spring due
to COVID-19. Should the situation improve and more programs in Japan become available, the
Society anticipates reopening the scholarship to applicants in the spring.
